Enhance your understanding of diabetic foot care with this online short course from King’s College London. Learn from world-leading academics and practising clinicians who set the standards in this field. King’s College Hospital was the first in the world to introduce a multidisciplinary approach to footcare – a standard adopted by the WHO and the International Diabetes Federation in the St Vincent Declaration in 1989. Worldwide, every 20 seconds a lower limb is lost due to diabetes. The rate of diabetes is rising. Many people across the globe are living with this life-changing condition and its long-term complications, including diabetic foot disease. Foot complications have become a serious burden for people with diabetes and if not timely managed, they can lead to lower limb loss. Yet, there’s a simple solution, and it stems from awareness and knowledge. With appropriate care and timely management, more than 80% of lower limb amputations are avoidable. During this short course, students will develop knowledge about the screening and management of diabetic foot disease – vital knowledge for any healthcare professional aiming to stop this upward trend. This course is taught 100% online giving students the flexibility to study alongside other work and life commitments. This short course offers two routes, an 8-week assessed credit-bearing version (15 credits) and a 6-week unassessed version. -

The short course “Hospital-based Interventions to Contain Antibiotic Resistance in Low-resource Settings (AIM)” is a 3-week course that offers interdisciplinary and interactive training on relevant aspects of antibiotic resistance and its containment at the hospital level. The course focuses on hospitals because they concentrate on the illest and vulnerable patients; in addition, they are hotbeds of healthcare-acquired infections, act as referral sites for difficult-to-treat infections, and host trainees and postgraduate educational programs. The short-course consists of a common track and 3 specific tracks on Antibiotic Stewardship (ABS), Infection Prevention & Control (IPC), and Microbiological Surveillance (MS) in the hospital setting. These are closely linked key components in the successful containment of antibiotic resistance. -

Teachers from all disciplines, from the lab to the clinic, will be part of the course to make it a complete interdisciplinary experience. This course will give the students insight into different aspects of neurodegenerative diseases of the brain such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and Vanishing White Matter: from molecules to the brain, and from cells to behavior. The course is organized by the Center for Neurogenomics and Cognitive Research (www.cncr.nl). The CNCR generates integrated research programs from genes to behavior, each combining mice and human studies. It operates as an expertise center of the Neuroscience Campus Amsterdam. -
