Master in Pharmacology

China pharmaceutical university has one of the earliest doctoral programs of pharmacology in China. The post-graduates program for master degree started as early as 1982, and that for Ph.D. degree started in 1990. It was evaluated as the key discipline of Jiangsu Province and State Key Training program in 2005, then the state second-class key discipline in 2007. Now the department has an experienced and creative team of faculty and staffs including 3 professors, 6 associated professors, and 4 instructors, among which 12 people have the Ph.D. or master degrees.

The department also carried out various courses in the undergraduate including Pharmacology, Cell Biology, Drug Toxicology, Experimental Pharmacology, Food Toxicology, a Medical basis for pharmacy, Advancement in modern pharmacology, English in Pharmaceutics. Among these courses, Pharmacology has been evaluated as an excellent course of Jiangsu colleges and university, Experiment Pharmacology is lined as experimental bilingual demo lecture of Nation Education Ministry, and Cell Biology is assessed as a school-level excellent course. During recent 5 years, the crew has participated in a complement of almost thirty teaching materials and professional books. The book 《Pharmacology》is not only lined as "Eleventh Five-Year" National Planning materials of higher education but also is awarded the second prize of national pharmaceutical excellent teaching materials in 2006, as well as excellent teaching materials of Jiangsu in 2007.

In specific research, our department research focuses on the development of neuroprotective drugs, cardiovascular drugs endocrine disease drugs, geriatrics drugs and anticancer drugs. To study the biological activity of drugs at cellular, molecular and genetic levels, our research concentrates on the molecular mechanisms of the drug actions in the human body, with the receptors and enzymes as the key point. In drug research and development area, we give full play to the role of pharmacology, and the primary aim is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the drug candidates.

Endeavoring to make progress in molecular and cellular pharmacology, we will make a deeper concept in understanding the pathogenesis, which will be a benefit for disease prevention and treatment. To achieve these goals, we will establish and gradually modify our education and research systems to meet the international standards.

Currently, our department has conducted a number of on-going major research projects, including two ‘significant new drugs creation’ funded by the Ministry of National Science and Technology, one ‘National Natural Science Funds’, one ‘Doctoral Fund’ from Ministry of National Education, one ‘Chinese medicine industry-specific Fund’, one ‘National Science & Technology Pillar Program’, and two ‘National Practical Innovation Project for undergraduates’.

We recruit more than 30 master and Ph.D. students each year, and there are more than 10 papers published in SCI journals. You are more than welcome to learn more about our department by visiting our website.

China Pharmaceutical University (CPU), originally the National Pharmaceutical School founded in 1936, is China’s first independent school of pharmacy and it has been one of the best universities of pharmacy in China with a wide variety of specialized areas. It is one of the “211 project” key universities affiliated to the Ministry of Education of China. Rank According to the 2008 statistics of the Ministry of Education of China, CPU's Pharmacy discipline ranks No. 1 and Traditional Chinese Pharmacy discipline ranks No. 3 among all Chinese universities. Competitiveness The university spirit is “strict, practical, creative and cooperative.” CPU graduates are devoted to serving the society and enjoy a high reputation from employers and the society. The employment rate tops among the higher institutions in China, about 99.8% for undergraduates, 100% for post-graduates, and 99.33% for vocational school students. The rate fluctuates little to the economic environment. Campus CPU is located in Nanjing, the "ancient capital city of six dynasties" in China and is composed of two campuses including Xuanwumen campus located in downtown Nanjing and Jiangning campus in the southeast outskirt of Nanjing. Schools and Departments CPU consists of 6 schools (School of Pharmacy, School of Traditional Chinese Pharmacy, School of life science and Technology, School of International Pharmaceutical Business, School of Continuing Education, and School of Higher Vocational Education), 4 independent departments (Dept. of Basic Sciences, Dept. of Foreign Languages, Dept. of Social Sciences, and Dept. of Physical Education), and 5 key labs and centers at state or provincial levels. Faculty Statistics Among the 530 faculty members, 2 are academicians (members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering), and more than 40% have advanced academic titles. So far, the university has undertaken more than 70 research projects financed by the State Key Programs Foundation, and more than 300 research projects financed by the State Natural Sciences Foundation and the State New Drug Research Foundation. There are also fundings from other national, provincial and municipal departments. Many projects have reached the international level and filled the gaps in the country’s pharmaceutical field. Student Statistics At present, CPU has 12,852 full-time students, including 83 international students from more than 40 countries. CPU is the only institution that is authorized by the Ministry of Education to admit full-time pharmacy students, continuing education students and senior visiting scholars from overseas. It is also one of the higher educational institutions in the mainland for students from Hongkong, Macao, and Taiwan. International The university is also active in international academic exchanges. It has made academic exchange agreements with more than 30 higher education institutions in different countries and regions of the world, including Japan, the United States, UK, Australia, Italy and Hong Kong. In addition, it maintains academic relationships with research institutions and universities in more than 40 countries and regions. Read less
