Time and again, EMU pre-med graduates report discovering they are better prepared than their counterparts in graduate school. In fact, over the past decade, over 80% of students who completed EMU’s pre-medical program were accepted into med school. EMU graduates credit our small class sizes, professors who nurtured them as individuals, and an environment that fostered personal growth and reflection about values, in addition to academic rigor.
Hands-on learning and research collaborationEMU’s cadaver dissection program is one example of ‘academic rigor’ that accounts for exceptional preparation for graduate school.
EMU is one of the few colleges in the state that offers a cadaver lab for undergraduate study and research. Hands-on original research alongside faculty members provides further preparation that puts EMU graduates ahead of many peers in graduate school.... [-]

Bachelor in Pre-Medicine
Students who are interested in going to medical school (allopathic or osteopathic) typically major in biology, chemistry or biochemistry. As these majors include both the required courses for entrance into medical schools as well as additional coursework that will help prepare students for medical programs and for the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). However, other degrees can also prepare students for health professions; thus students are encouraged to major in the field where they excel and should consult a Pre-Health Professions advisor about coursework.
Members of the Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Physics and the Department of Biology offer guidance to students and write recommendations through our Pre-Health Professional Committee (PHPC) composed of biology, chemistry, biochemistry, and physics faculty.... [-]
