Introduction
Nursing is one of the oldest health care professions and includes the largest group of those working in the field. Nursing is an independent profession and science and includes practical, ethical, individual, and empirical knowledge. In addition to other professional groups in the health sector, nursing makes a significant and indispensable contribution.
In an age of fundamental health reform and increasingly complex health problems, caregivers are increasingly seen as a key resource for health reform strategies. As the largest group of health workers in the European Union, who also work in a wide variety of health care settings, nurses make a major contribution to achieving the goals of “Health 21” (WHO, 2001).
The health system requires nurses with comprehensive theoretical and practical basic knowledge. It requires nurses who are willing to expand their knowledge for life so that they can adequately cope with the current and future challenges in the healthcare system.
