Introduction
The Orthodontic Internship program at Temple University’s Kornberg School of Dentistry offers the opportunity to build knowledge in orthodontics through a curriculum that balances clinical and didactic methods.
The intern participates in the hands-on treatment of patients with minor to moderate malocclusions, gaining the skills needed to diagnose and treat minor orthodontic malocclusions in practice. The intern also attends seminars with first-year orthodontic residents that include Growth and Development, Cephalometrics, Thesis Design, Orthodontic Philosophies and Techniques, Current Literature Review, Diagnostic and Treatment Planning Conference, and Progress Conference. The 11-month program, which runs from July 1 to May 30, requires work on a research study that produces a national presentation or publication, in order for the intern to become a more competitive applicant for orthodontic programs. Approximately one day per week is allotted for research throughout the duration of the program.
