Introduction
The Family Nurse Practitioner MSN concentration prepares students to function in the role of primary care Family Nurse Practitioners (FNP). Our FNP graduates apply for licensure as advanced practice registered nurses (APRN) and care for a wide range of clients, in multiple settings, across the lifespan, working in collaboration with many members of the healthcare team. With a focus on prevention and primary care, many FNPs choose to work in health professional shortage areas to increase access to care.
Students who successfully complete the MSN curriculum for the family nurse practitioner meet educational requirements to take the Nurse Practitioner Role: Family Nurse Practitioner national certification examination, and to apply for an advanced practice license. The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is offered through an affiliation with the Intercollegiate Consortium for a Master of Science in Nursing (ICMSN), and is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and fully approved by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
