Introduction

UNAJ begins to write the first lines of its history on December 29, 2009, when the Congress of the Argentine Nation promulgates Law 26,576 for the creation of the Arturo Jauretche National University based in Florencio Varela, Province of Buenos Aires.

Since then, a set of planning, organization, and management actions have been initiated for the new educational proposal framed in the National Project that gives rise to it and which is based on democratic values, the right to education, interdisciplinary work, and the committed relationship with the community.

At the request of the start of registration for the first school year 2011, in November, President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner attends the official launch ceremony and states that “UNAJ is part of a true indirect security policy because education is what really ensures that a society can grow more and better, giving equal opportunities to all ”. In January 2011, the building of the former YPF laboratories was transferred to UNAJ in the framework of an act where the President officially signs the document in which the National University of La Plata cedes the 9-hectare property and the building located on Av. Calchaquí at 6200.

The total number of enrolled in the first school cycle was 3046 new entrants. In 2015, the number of registrations tripled with respect to the beginning of the University's activities in 2011, currently having 10,700 regular students and 9,200 new students in 2015.

The geographical origin of enrollees has changed during the four years of academic activities. In 2011, 78.4% of the entrants corresponded to residents of the Florencio Varela party. However, since 2012 it is observed that the University has acquired a regional profile, recognizing the increase in the representation of students residing in various districts of the South suburbs.
